An essay of mine on the Neocons and renegade narratives appeared in Mittelweg 36

This essay, which just appeared in Mittelweg 36, proposes something quite simple: while the phenomenon that people become more conservative with age, and that some of them turn quite conservative, is likely transhistoric, the narratives people turn to to explain and reflect on their conversions are of course very historically specific. The essay proposes that the generational experience of the neocons became influential in and through media: because it provided a template by which an entire generation could narrativize its aging process, and cast it in explicitly political terms.
